A Community Built on Strength & Teamwork

Illinois Community Rowing was formed in 2024 and is dedicated to the sport of rowing to Central Illinois. We are a program of the Illinois Rowing Association and friends of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Rowing. We welcome rowers from all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels.

  • Our home water is Clinton Lake, a scenic reservoir just 30 minutes from Champaign-Urbana. With calm waters and wide-open space, it’s the perfect place for both learning the fundamentals and fine-tuning competitive strokes. The Clinton Lake State Recreation Area is located on Liberty Road in Farmer City, Illinois. Enter at the Parnell Boat Access Area and Equestrian Trailhead. The Google Map is embedded below.

  • No! Our Learn-to-Row (LTR) program is designed for complete beginners. If you’re brand new to rowing, this is the best place to start.

  • 1️⃣ Learn-to-Row (LTR) Program – Perfect for beginners!

    🚣‍♀️ If you've never rowed before but want to give it a try, our 4-week Learn-to-Row program is for you! You'll start with the basics—how to hold an oar, stroke technique, and balance—before progressing to full-boat rowing. No prior experience or fitness level required!

    📅 Schedule (subject to change):

    • mid-June through mid-July

    • Saturday morning + one evening practice a week

    By the end LTR, you’ll have the option to continue rowing in our Masters Rowing Program and take your rowing to the next level!

    2️⃣ Masters Rowing Program – For experienced rowers & LTR graduates

    If you’ve rowed before or completed our Learn-to-Row program, the Masters Rowing Program is your next step.

    📅 Schedule (subject to change):

    • mid-May through mid-August

    • Saturday morning + two weekday evening practices a week

  • Membership fees are paid annually and provide you access to coaching and training sessions, and use of boats, oars, and equipment at Clinton Lake.

    • Learn-to-Row (LTR) Program: $375.00/person

      • LTR graduates are welcome to continue with the Masters Rowing Program for the remaining weeks of the season.

    • Masters Rowing Program: $575.00/person

    Membership fees do not cover regatta entry fees and travel expenses. Participation in regattas is optional.
